The Heartland State Trail runs directly through Nevis — the DNR access is at County Road 18 and Village Road off Highway 34 — and continues 27 paved miles from Park Rapids through Dorset and Nevis to Akeley and Walker. Snowmobiles are welcome on it in winter, studded tracks included.
The Nevis Trailblazers grooms about 110 miles a week across the Paul Bunyan State Forest, the Wilder Trails and the Heartland corridor, running roughly October through April, with connections toward Dorset, Akeley, Walker, Cass Lake and Bemidji. Nevis calls itself the gateway to the Paul Bunyan State Forest, and the traffic backs that up.
