Hubbard County has more groomed trail than most riders can cover in a season, and almost nowhere to put the trailer when the season ends. Our 24x24 indoor drive-in units take a loaded multi-sled trailer, the ATV, and the gear that goes with both — $170 a month, 24/7 access, minutes from the Heartland Trail.
Most storage sized for a car is 10 or 12 feet wide. That is the wrong shape for this sport. Ours are 24 feet by 24 feet with a drive-in door, so an enclosed two- or three-place trailer goes in hitched and level, and you are not shuffling sleds around in a snowbank to get at the one you want.

Winter: the Heartland State Trail runs 49 miles from Park Rapids through Dorset, Nevis and Akeley to Walker and on to Cass Lake, open to snowmobiles with studded tracks allowed, and it connects into the groomed grant-in-aid network. The Forest Riders Snowmobile Club out of Park Rapids grooms roughly 276 miles across Two Inlets State Forest, Itasca State Park and White Earth State Forest, taking in Osage, Emmaville and Lake George. The Nevis Trailblazers add about 110 miles a week through the Paul Bunyan State Forest and the Wilder Trails. Minnesota grant-in-aid trails generally run December 1 through March 31, snow permitting.
Summer: the Schoolcraft Trail covers 29 miles of ATV and off-highway-motorcycle trail in the Paul Bunyan State Forest near Lake George, open May 1 through November 1. The Forest Riders ATV Trail runs about 100 miles across Becker and Hubbard counties with staging at the Lake George Town Hall. Round River Drive is over near Akeley, the Martineau trails in the Paul Bunyan forest are an off-highway-motorcycle system, and Smoky Hills in Becker County adds another 20 miles.
One thing worth knowing: Paul Bunyan, Two Inlets and Huntersville are all classified Limited state forests, which means riding stays on signed roads and trails rather than open ground.
Sleds and quads left outside under a tarp are the ones that need carburetor work in November. Indoors, out of the sun and off the weather, they come out the way they went in.
Because access is 24/7 and year round, you can pull a machine for a warm weekend in March and put it back Sunday night without arranging anything with anybody. Rentals are month to month, so a rider who only needs six months of storage is not paying for twelve.
